This was Pat’s choice.
Pat says: If you’re looking for a nice place to take your significant other, are hungry for pizza, and don’t mind paying a premium price, Villa Dolce is for you. With an atmosphere of casual elegance, upholstered chairs, candles on the tables, it’s a great place for an evening out. We sat in a nook off to the side just big enough for the 5 of us (including 6′ 5″ Neil in his new Cubs t-shirt) . Got to say, though, that once we’d all ordered our own separate dinners (three pizzas, one calzone and a dish of tortellini) the bill came to $96. No matter how good the pizza was, we couldn’t really justify the cost for a mid-week family dinner.
I had a Mediterranean pizza, with feta, olives, tomatoes and spinach. It was very good – just the right amount of toppings on my favorite kind of crust – thick enough to hold up to the toppings, but not doughy. Kevin had the meat calzone – he says it was very fresh, the service was attentive and he liked the decor even though we were a bit squeezed in. So, bottom line, a nice place with good food, good service, and pleasant ambience, but a bit expensive for our group, especially for pizza. 7 out of 10.
erin says: I need to point out that we did leave with a whole pizza’s worth of leftovers, so the bill would have been more like $80 if we had ordered only what we would eat for dinner. $80 for 5 people isn’t so bad. I had one of the pastas from the Celebration menu (you can order them a la carte). The Parmesan cream sauce tasted strongly of… something… maybe just the sun dried tomatoes, but I’d guess it might have been sherry or brandy or something. The sun dried tomatoes were a little overwhelming. But, I was so hungry that it made little difference. I had some of Brian’s pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom pizza and I thought it was great. The toppings tasted REALLY good. Kevin had a calzone, and Neil had some other sort of pizza. We didn’t get to try any of the homemade gelatos. It’s a neat little place with all sorts of nooks and alcoves. I liked all of the interior details. They’re a pretty small place, but they were able to squeeze the 5 of us in a place that was just the right size. 7 out of 10.
