January 15, 2009 – Oliva
Visit the Oliva website.
This was Brian’s choice.
erin says: We’ve seen this place and wanted to try it for a few weeks. We started with hummus and garlic bread. They also provided bread and a yummy olive and garlic tapenade. Everyone got a salad except me, I had the red lentil soup, which I thought was good. Three of us ordered canneloni stuffed with spinach, cheese, and beef. We all thought it was excellent. Personally, there is nothing I would change about it. Brian ordered chicken fettucine alfredo, and I had one bite of that. I was not impressed with that. It was kind of tasteless and pasty. That really surprised me because everything else was SO good. Neil had a calzone and I believe he said it was the best one he’d ever had. It did look good. We were given a free sample of kisir, a cracked wheat salad that’s kind of orange in color. Next time I’ll definitely get some of that. It was really great. I liked the fabric draped over the booths and the warm colors on the walls. I did not like the plastic over the table cloths, that was weird. It’s a pretty small place, with maybe 12 small tables and three booths (I can’t recall exactly). I think they’re going to have to expand. I definitely want to go back. I left feeling like I’d eaten way too much bread, but I couldn’t leave the hummus and tapenade alone. My food was some of the best I’ve had recently, but I think we’ll stay away from the alfredo. 9 out of 10
Pat says: I really enjoyed this dinner. I liked the food, the atmosphere, the friendly but kind of ditzy waitstaff. I had a bite of Neil’s Mediterranean calzone, and next time I’d order that – it was very tasty. I would have liked to have some pita bread for the hummus, but that’s about the only thing I’d change. Our waitress wants you to know that the dish is pronounced “hoo moose”. Remember that. I’ll give Oliva a 9 out of 10 – looking forward to going back.

I think they referred to the bread as Turkish pita bread. I liked it with the hoo-moose.
