May 21, 2008 – Burrachos [CLOSED]
erin says: Just what Madison needed, another Mexican grill, right?! It’s across the street from Panchero’s for heaven’s sake. I’d rate it higher than Panchero’s, definitely lower than Chipotle, maybe slightly lower than QDoba. At first, I liked it. But afterwards I didn’t feel so good. I had a barbacoa burrito with black beans, medium salsa (definitely will go with hot if there is a next time), lettuce, cheese, sour cream. I think that covers it. We also had some chips and cheese. Not nearly enough cheese. And the cheese tasted good, but had a weird consistency after it cooled. 4 out of 10.
Brian says: I ordered a burrito, and intended to order exactly the same thing as I do at Chipotle for comparison, but was unable to. I’m a big fan of the steak at Chipotle, so I was disappointed that ground sirloin was the only beef available at Burrachos. It’s a concept we’ve already experienced several times, and I can’t think of anything (price, location, taste, etc.) which would cause me to visit Burrachos instead of any of the other existing Mexican grills. 3 out of 10.
Mom says: I did the same thing as Brian – ordered what I would have gotten had I gone to Chipotle. I had a bol, with rice, pintos, and chicken. It was okay, but the beans were mushed almost to the consistency of refried beans, and it was a bit more spicy than I like. I’ve never been to Panchero’s, so can’t compare those two, but I’d go out of my way to go to Chipotle instead of Burrachos. The place hadn’t been open for very long, and I was hoping for some kind of “special” on the first visit, but no such luck. Not bad, but not great either. 4 out of 10.

Not to mention I don’t like that the name is so close to “borracho”. Funny, hah hah.

Loved Burrachos. I’ve been to a few of them, and it’s always service with a smile and they do anything they can to make your visit special. Not run by a whole mega-corporation like Chipotle (i.e. Mcdonalds-Mex division), and the food is better. Have you tried the crab they have during lent? Outstanding.

Terrible restaurant! The meat I had looked like it had sat all day, it was black on the top so the server had to mix it up with the layers below. Wow, it had no flavor, the cheese was poor quality. After contacting the corporate office, I got no response. These guys will be out of business in 4-5 years.

Jack: I’m baited into responding to this because I will always defend Chipotle. They have nothing to do with McDonald’s anymore, and barely ever did.
